All-New Skoda Slavia 2022

Skoda and Volkswagen are working together in Indian Automobile Market to capture it like before, although it is late but as the saying goes better late than never. Both car manufacturers have many cars in the launch timeline and here we have the newest one to compete in the Sedan Segment giving straight competition to The Honda City which has been the most loved Sedans for over 2 decades now.
Skoda has replaced a new Sedan with its sporty spirit Rapid i.e, The Skoda Slavia. Slavia too is based on the MQB A0 IN platform. This means it has something more to offer than its competitors or it is just like the C Segment Sedans in the market?

Let us find out what The Skoda Slavia has to offer

1. Engine

Before going to the cosmetic updates let’s have look at what power The Skoda Slavia has to offer us. Under the hood comes an option of two turbo petrol engines, a 1.0-litre three-cylinder and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder.

  • This is the same engine that comes with all the Skoda Kushaq and also the Volkswagen Taigun. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol is capable of generating a peak power of 115ps. Moving on to the larger 1.5-litre motor, it generates a whopping 150ps of max power.
  • This makes the Skoda Slavia the most potent sedan under ₹20 lakhs (expected). With that, we also expect the Skoda Slavia to clock 0-100kmph in under 8 seconds.
  • Transferring the power from the engine to the front wheels, both the engines get an option of a 6-speed manual and an automatic. Of course, all four transmissions differ from each other.
  • Speaking of which, the 1.0- litre gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic. On the other end, the 1.5-litre is mated to the lightning-fast, 7-speed DSG box.
  • With that, Skoda also claims this DSG has numerous updates makes it a lot more reliable than the ones in the SUV from Skoda.

2. Exterior

  • Sedans available in the market are more often stylish or sophisticated, or both. Here Skoda Slavia attempts to bring about a confluence of these adjectives and, dare I say, manages to succeed as well. It is visibly wider at 1,752 mm and has a stretched out profile from the side which is likely to give it a pronounced road presence. And yet, it has the typical sedan attributes to add a generous dose of style and sophistication.
  • The front grille is bordered on all sides with chrome and is identical to what is seen on the Kushaq as well. The headlight units feature what Skoda refers to as advanced LED technology and blend well with the grille, complete with a dash of DRL. The bonnet swoops down gently and has multiple character lines to further lend a dose of character.
  • Character lines continue on the side of the Slavia as well where you will find chrome additions on the door handles, 16-inch wheels with stylish alloy design, chrome lining on the bottom of the windows and overlapping around the C-pillar bend, and what appears to be reasonably high ground clearance.
  • Moving to the rear side, this angle is where the Slavia is at its best. C-shaped LED tail lights, clean lines, a thin chrome line on the rear fender and a slight over curve on the boot door gives it an elegant and modern appeal to the customer.
  • The Skoda Slavia has a massive 521 litres of boot space. Even if you trust your eyes more than numbers, it is evident that this is the biggest luggage space in the mid-size sedan segment. It is also an indication that Skoda has burnt the night lamp to give attention to the cabin of the Slavia.

3. Interior/Cabin

Skoda is claiming Slavia as a premium mid-size sedan.

  • There are hard plastics in places but the overall appeal of the car may well be plusher than any of its current rivals competing in the segment. A neat interplay of black and beige on the dash, inter-spaced with an inlay in a piano black finish in the middle. The 10-inch infotainment screen is positioned close to the front seats to possibly cut out glare while the circular AC vents with bronze inserts, the sleek centre console with storage spaces and the two-spoke steering with mounted controls are all quite upmarket. There is also an all-digital driver display and the front two seats are ventilated.
  • The black and beige seat upholstery has a pleasing effect on the senses and there is a good amount of leg and knee room for the passengers at the rear. Considering the width of the vehicle, three people can accommodate well without any complain while the headroom is a little low. The back of the front seats has flap-like storage for documents.

4. Safety

This topic has been the talk of the town nowadays as a majority of the car manufacturers have been gearing up for safety to maintain their sales figures except for one or two.
Skoda is promising a safe drive experience with the Slavia and the sedan gets as many as six airbags in the top variant, ESC as standard and Multi-Collision Brake. Other highlights include Hill Hold Assist, rain and light sensors, cruise control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and more.
