October 2021 has been a great month for the Indian Automobile Market as it was a festival month many car manufacturers came up with new offers for Indian Consumers and the car market has seen a whopping climb in sales as compared to last festive season. This festive season the Indian Automobile Market recorded a huge sales figure of 2.6 lakh, and to our surprise, we see a new entry in the list i.e, Tata Punch which was launched recently and it was the first car to top the list.

10 Top Selling Cars in October 2021

1. Maruti Suzuki Alto

The sales figure of Maruti Suzuki Alto for October 2021 closed at 17,389 units. Maruti has increased the prices of the Alto by up to Rs 16,000.

Maruti Alto Price: The Alto has now priced between Rs 3.15 lakh and Rs 4.82 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Alto Variants: Maruti Suzuki sells the hatchback in three trims: Std, L, and V. The L trim are also offered with a CNG kit.

Maruti Alto Engine and Transmission: The Alto comes with a 0.8-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine (48PS/69Nm). When driven on CNG, it produces 41PS and 60Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Alto’s claimed mileage figures stand at 22.05kmpl for petrol and 31.59km/kg for CNG.

Maruti Alto Features: The Maruti Alto gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in its top-spec VXi+ variant. Other features on offer include keyless entry and front power windows.

Maruti Alto Safety: Standard safety features include driver-side airbag, rear parking sensors, and ABS with EBD.

2. Maruti Suzuki Baleno

The sales figure of Maruti Suzuki Baleno for October 2021 closed at 15,573 units. 

The India-made Suzuki Baleno has scored zero stars in the Latin NCAP crash tests.

Maruti Baleno Price: Maruti Suzuki has now priced the hatchback from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Baleno Variants: It is sold in four trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha.

Maruti Baleno Engine and Transmission: It comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine (83PS/113Nm), mated to either a 5-speed MT or a CVT. The hatchback also gets a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech (90PS/113Nm), paired with a 5-speed MT. Maruti claims a mileage of 21.01kmpl for the petrol-manual variants, while those with the CVT return 19.56kmpl. On the other hand, the mild-hybrid powertrain offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.87kmpl.

Maruti Baleno Features: The Baleno gets LED projector headlamps, a rearview camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto climate control, push-button stop/start, and keyless entry.

Maruti Baleno Safety: Standard safety features include rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and dual front airbags across all variants.

3. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the only MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) in the Indian Automobile Market that gives consumers an economical CNG Option. Ertiga being one of the most successful MPV’s in the Indian Automobile Market has always been on the top-selling list. For October 2021 the sales figure of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga closed at 12,293 units. 

 Maruti has increased the prices of the Ertiga by up to Rs 20,000.

Maruti Ertiga Price: The Maruti MPV’s new price ranges from Rs 7.96 lakh to Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Ertiga Variants: Maruti sells the Ertiga in four trims: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+.

Maruti Ertiga Seating Capacity: It can carry up to seven occupants.

Maruti Ertiga Engine and Transmission: Maruti has equipped the Ertiga with a 1.5-litre petrol engine (105PS/138Nm), mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter. The CNG-petrol variant uses the same 1.5-litre petrol engine but without the mild-hybrid tech. It has a claimed efficiency of 26.08km/kg but the performance drops to 92PS and 122Nm. The petrol engine with the MT and AT options has a claimed efficiency of 19.01kmpl and 17.99kmpl, respectively.

Maruti Ertiga Features: It comes with projector headlamps, fog lamps, LED tail lamps, 15-inch wheels, a 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and CarPlay, and a push-button start/stop. The Ertiga also gets ventilated front cup holders, auto climate control with rear AC vents, and a reverse parking camera. 

Maruti Ertiga Safety: Safety is covered by dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and reverse parking sensors. Maruti has also equipped it with ESP and hill hold for safety, but these features are limited to the automatic variant.

4. Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Looking at the current scenario of rising fuel prices the Indian Consumers are preferring an economical way to drive as owning a Car is no longer considered a luxury it is a daily need. Maruti Suzuki WagonR might lack a bit on the safety aspect but still manages to sell a good amount each month. The sales figure of Maruti Suzuki WagonR for October 2021 closed at 12,923 units. 

Maruti Suzuki has hiked the prices of the Wagon R by up to Rs 12,500.

Maruti Wagon R Price: The compact hatchback is now priced from Rs 4.93 lakh to Rs 6.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Wagon R Variants: It is sold in three trims: LXi, VXi, and ZXi.

Maruti Wagon R Engine and Transmission: Maruti offers the Wagon R with two petrol engine options: 1-litre (68PS/90Nm) and 1.2-litre (83PS/113Nm). Both engines can be mated to 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes. The Wagon R also has an optional CNG variant with the 1-litre engine (59PS/78Nm), paired with a 5-speed MT. 

Claimed fuel efficiency figures are as follows:

  • 1-litre MT/AMT- 21.79kmpl
  • 1-litre CNG- 32.52km/kg
  • 1.2-litre MT/AMT- 20.52kmpl

Maruti Wagon R Features: It comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, manual AC, all four power windows, keyless entry, and steering-mounted audio and calling controls.

Maruti Wagon R Safety: Standard safety features include a driver airbag, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors.

5. Hyundai Venue

For the first time, Hyundai has managed to come in the list of top-selling with a sales figure of 10,554 units. 

Hyundai has axed six variants of the Venue and introduced two new trims. 

Hyundai Venue Price: The Venue is priced from Rs 6.92 lakh to Rs 11.73 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Hyundai Venue Variants: It is available in eight trims: E, S, S+, S(O), SX, SX(O) Executive, SX+, and SX(O).

Hyundai Venue Seating Capacity: The Venue comes in a five-seater configuration.

Hyundai Venue Engine and Transmission: Hyundai has provided its sub-4m SUV with three engine options: two petrol and one diesel. The 1.2-litre petrol engine (83PS/114Nm) comes mated to a 5-speed manual, while the 1.5-litre diesel motor (100PS/240Nm) from the Seltos is paired to a 6-speed MT. However, there’s no automatic option. 

The SUV also gets a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine (120PS/171Nm), mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This unit also gets a 6-speed iMT with a manual shifter (but doesn’t feature the clutch pedal). It is more affordable than the conventional automatic option.

Hyundai Venue Features: It is equipped with auto climate control with rear AC vents, Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech, wireless mobile charging, cruise control, push-button start/stop, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a sunroof.

Hyundai Venue Safety: Safety features on offer include up to six airbags, electronic stability control, and vehicle stability management.

6. Kia Seltos

The main thing to notice here is that Kia Seltos has made its way ahead of its cousin Hyundai Creta as the sales of Hyundai Creta are now decreasing. The sales of Kia Seltos for October 2021 closed at 10,488 units. 

The Kia Seltos has priced between Rs 9.95 lakh and Rs 18.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Kia Seltos Variants: Kia offers it in two broad trims: Tech (HT) Line and GT Line. While the former has five variants (HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, and HTX+), the latter has only two [GTX(O) and GTX+]. It also comes in a new range-topping X-Line variant based on the GTX variant but with different cosmetics for a more rugged look.

Kia Seltos Seating Capacity: The Seltos can carry up to five people.

Kia Seltos Engine and Transmission: It comes with three engine options: 1.5-litre petrol (115PS/144Nm), 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol (140PS/242Nm), and 1.5-litre diesel (115PS/250Nm). A 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard with all three engines. 

Optional automatic transmissions include a 7-speed DCT (1.4-litre turbo-petrol), a CVT (1.5-litre petrol), and a 6-speed torque converter unit (1.5-litre diesel). The 1.5-litre petrol engine also gets a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) gearbox.

Kia claims a fuel efficiency of 16.5kmpl for the petrol manual and 16.8kmpl for the petrol-CVT variants. The diesel manuals claimed fuel efficiency figure stands at 21kmpl, while that of the 6-speed AT’s is 18kmpl. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol paired with the DCT offers a claimed mileage of 16.5kmpl while the manual returns 16.1kmpl.

Kia Seltos Features: The Seltos is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Kia’s UVO connected car technology, an air purifier, ambient lighting, an 8-inch heads-up display, ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch multi-information display, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, and a sunroof. Other features include smartwatch connectivity, smart key remote-engine start, and a ‘Hello Kia’ wake up command. 

Kia Seltos Safety: Its safety kit consists of up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, emergency stop signal, vehicle stability management (VSM), electronic stability control (ESC), and hill assist control (HAC).

7. Maruti Suzuki Eeco

This has now become our favourite! Well, Eeco always stands strong among the top-selling cars. Other machines, despite the feature availability and performance, are not able to beat Eeco in terms of sales figures. Well, Eeco is another practical car if you are eyeing a commercial or a cargo vehicle. The sale of Maruti Suzuki Eeco for October 2021 closed at 10,320 units. 

Prices of the Eeco have been hiked by up to Rs 22,500.

Maruti Eeco Price: Maruti Suzuki now retails the MPV between Rs 4.30 lakh and Rs 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Eeco Variants: It is offered in four variants: 5-seater standard, 5-seater AC, 5-seater AC CNG, and 7-seater standard.

Maruti Eeco Seating Capacity: The Maruti MPV can seat up to seven people.

Maruti Eeco Engine and Transmission: It is available with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (73PS/98Nm), paired with a 5-speed MT. The same engine with a CNG kit produces 63PS/85Nm. The petrol version has a fuel efficiency figure of 16.11kmpl, whereas the CNG variant returns 20.88km/kg.

Maruti Eeco Features: Feature highlights include manual AC.

Maruti Eeco Safety: It gets a driver airbag, ABS with EBD, front seatbelt reminder, speed alert, and rear parking sensors as standard.

8. Tata Nexon

The much boasted Tata Nexon with 5 Star Global NCAP Rating has also managed to take a place in the top-selling cars. With a sales figure of 10,096 units, Tata Nexon has shown significant growth. 

Tata has discontinued the silver shade of the Nexon 

Tata Nexon Price: The Nexon has priced between Rs 7.28 lakh and Rs 13.23 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India).

Tata Nexon Variants: It is sold in five trims: XE, XM, XZ, XZ+, and XZ+(O).

Tata Nexon Seating Capacity: Tata’s sub-4m SUV is a five-seater.

Tata Nexon Engine and Transmission: It gets two engine options: 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol (120PS/170Nm) and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel (110PS/260Nm). Both can be paired with a 6-speed MT as standard and an optional 6-speed AMT.

Tata Nexon Features: It comes with auto AC with rear AC vents, rain-sensing wipers, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, and a digital instrument cluster.

Tata Nexon Safety: Standard safety features across variants include dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. 

9. Maruti Suzuki Swift

On the second last rank, we have Maruti Suzuki Swift, Although this car has always been in the top 5 this time it has shown a significant decrease in the sales figure. Maruti has hiked the prices of the Swift by up to Rs 13,000.

Maruti Swift Price: The Swift has now priced between Rs 5.85 lakh and Rs 8.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Swift Variants: It is offered in four trims: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+.

Maruti Swift Engine and Transmission: Maruti Suzuki has equipped the 2021 Swift with the 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine (90PS/113Nm), introduced on the facelifted Dzire that comes with an idle start-stop feature for improved fuel efficiency. It gets the same 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options as before. The fuel efficiency figures with both the transmissions are as follows:

  • 1.2-litre MT- 23.20kmpl
  • 1.2-litre AMT- 23.76kmpl

Maruti Swift Features: The Swift comes with a new 4.2-inch coloured driver’s display and cruise control while retaining features such as the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, height-adjustable driver seat, auto AC, and LED headlamps with LED DRLs.

Maruti Swift Safety: Its AMT-equipped variants get electronic stability control (ESC) and hill hold control. Features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors have been carried forward from the pre-facelift model.

10. Tata Punch

To everyone’s surprise, Tata Punch has made its way to the top-selling list as soon as it was launched and Tata Motors launched it in a new segment called the MICRO SUV. The Punch seems to be a very promising vehicle and seeing the buzz it has already created in the market, Punch seems to be on fire already! Tata Punch Engine and Transmission: It is equipped with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine (86PS/113Nm) as the Altroz, mated to 5-speed manual and AMT options.

Tata Punch Ground Clearance: Tata’s micro SUV has a ground clearance of 187mm.

Tata Punch Features: The Punch comes with a 7-inch touchscreen system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, auto AC, automatic headlights and wipers, and cruise control. However, it doesn’t have a sunroof.

Tata Punch Safety: It gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and a rear parking camera.
