MG Astor The Cheapest Car in India with ADAS

Morris Garages aka MG Motors has finally entered the hottest and the most selling segment in Indian Automobile Market i.e, Compact SUV.
MG Motors did its debut in the Indian Market in 2019 with MG Hector and it gave a tough competition to KIA Seltos which was launched in the same year. By providing features like Internet Inside and Panoramic Sunroof MG Motors won many Indian hearts after which there was no looking back. And after the tremendous success of Hector MG Motors launched ZS EV, Hector Plus and Gloster in 2020.
And now in the last quarter of 2021 MG Motors has finally entered the Compact SUV Segment with its all-new MG Astor which is giving direct competition to the segment leader i.e, The Hyundai Creta.

To beat the competition MG Motors have smartly priced the car between Rs.9 lakh – Rs. 17 lakh and it has much more to offer than others in this segment.

The Design

From the outside one can mistake it with the ZS EV as both the cars share the same platform. Although the Astor seems like the facelifted version of ZS EV. But there is a piece of good news that MG has announced the ZS EV facelift in the year 2022.

Interior

Now features are the USP of MG Motors and that is what makes them stand out of the crowd. And following the tradition MG Astor get some first in segment features that are available at a much less price.

It comes with :

  • Personal AI Assist
  • All LED Headlights
  • Heated ORVMs
  • 360 surround camera
  • ADAS Level 2
  • 17-inch Alloy Wheels
  • 6 Radars
  • Bluetooth Key
  • Panoramic Sunroof

and much more

The ADAS Trim / Savvy Trim

At the time of launch, MG Motors quoted that the ADAS Level 2 will be available in the top trim only but now they have introduced a new trim i.e, The Savvy. But what makes it special is its pricing, The Savvy trim of the Astor SUV is priced at starting price of Rs. 15.78 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom). This makes the MG Astor Savvy, the cheapest car in India to come with Level-2 ADAS onboard.

With the Savvy trim now added to the variant lineup, the Astor is now offered in a total of five trims—The Style, Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy trims. For the top of the line Savvy variant, the transmission is limited to automatic only.
Buyers get an option to either bring home the Savvy trim mated to the 1.5-litre petrol CVT, or the one that comes mated to the 1.3-litre petrol AT. The former comes for RS. 15.78 Lakhs going all the way up to Rs. 15.88 Lakhs for the Sangria Red. The latter comes in a Sangria Red theme by default and is priced at Rs. 17.38 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom)

Offerings of the Savvy Trim

Many would-be wondering what the extra money gets, the ADAS package onboard brings in a host of additional features. This includes Level-2 ADAS features such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist. Additionally, other safety features such as up to six airbags, brake assist, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, hill start and hill descent control, all make their way onboard the Savvy Trim.

Feature-wise too, the Savvy wouldn’t disappoint as it packs all that the mid-size SUV has on its plate. This includes inclusions like a mammoth 10.1-inch touch infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple Car Play and connected car technology. There will also be an all-digital 7.0-inch instrument cluster. And not to forget, that the Astor is also India’s first car with AI inside, along with CAAP services.

Under the Hood

MG Astor offers 2 petrol engine options, to our disappointment no diesel engine this time.

  • The engine that will do everything at a sedate pace is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol. This motor is capable of generating peak power of 110ps and about 144Nm of peak torque. Sending the power to the front wheels is either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic.
  • For those looking for spirited driving, there is also an option of a 1.4-litre 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine capable of generating maximum power of 140ps. Also, the pea torque sits at 220Nm. Well, this motor can be only had with a 6-speed AT (Torque Converter).

Pricing

As said earlier the MG Astor starts at ₹9.78 Lakhs ex-showroom and the top end trim goes up to, ₹16.78 lakh. Considering its rivals, the MG Astor undercuts almost everything.

Final Verdict

With the Savvy variant, MG Motors has already won the masses through aggressive pricing. Being India’s cheapest vehicle with L-2 ADAS onboard, the MG Astor Savvy is already a winner. The bookings have started and you can test drive the vehicle at your nearest MG Showroom.

This was all about the cheapest Compact SUV with ADAS Level 2.
